"I am a third grade teacher and educational technology coach for the Bristol Warren Regional School District. I have been teaching for over 20 years in which I taught grades K-5. I believe that each of our students has the potential to bring something unique and special to the world. Teaching is an important and honorable occupation that demands commitment. I love being a teacher What inspires me to be a teacher is the magic! To spend each and everyday helping children fall in love with learning. To see them get excited about either learning something new or conquering what they might have thought was impossible, this is magic to me. The ah-ha moments, the challenge, and the fact that I know I am shaping a child’s future is what inspires me everyday!"

Check out some of Susan's formatives! Standards are aligned with NGSS (3rd Grade).

3-ESS2-2, 3-ESS3-1, 3-5-ETS1-1., 3-5-ETS1-2., 3-5-ETS1-3. Students will read the article and gather information about Hurricane Katrina that they can use to help solve a problem for rising water. Students are asked to make a claim about the effectiveness of their design solution for protecting New Orleans from rising waters and will design a prototype of a hurricane barrier. They will test their prototype and make necessary changes to improve their overall ability to keep New Orleans safe.

3-ESS2-1, 3-ESS2-2 Students will use the data in this formative to compare the climate in three different areas and predict what season it might be. They will look at weather in three different parts of the world and gather information about patterns and climate.

3-ESS3-1 Students will make a claim about the merit of a design solution that reduces the impacts of a weather-related hazard.

3-ESS2-1, 3-ESS3-1, 3-5-ETS1-1., 3-5-ETS1-2.,3-5-ETS1-3. Students will look at data in different types of graphs that display an extreme weather condition during the winter and make a claim about how they can stay safe during a blizzard. Students will design a safety plan and tool kit. They will compare their safety plan to see if its effective and fits the criteria for the problem that is addressed and make adjustments accordingly.

3-LS1-1 Students will learn that life cycles of both a plant and a frog have birth, reproduction, and death in common. Students will identify stages of a life cycle and read an article and answer question about life cycles.

3-PS2-1, 3-PS2-2 Students will read about force and motion and answer questions. They will plan out an investigation to measure the height and distance a car will roll and then make a claim on how far their car will travel for three trials. Each trial they will adjust to try to make it go further.

3-PS2-3, 3-PS2-4 Students will learn all about how magnets attract and repel when they come in contact with each other. They will then design a way to make their magnet move faster than their partners by using what they learned about magnets.
